‘I’m now reassured about the future of education in Saudi Arabia, having been in such wonderfully engaging spaces with energetic and motivated staff and interpreters committed to inspire kids
to learn.’ H.E. Dr. Noura AlFayez, Deputy Minister of Education in Saudi Arabia
An initiative from the King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy, Mishkat is an interactive science discovery centre developed to inspire the next generation of Saudi Arabian energy innovators.
Mishkat has been designed to engage and inspire its audiences and is reliant on enthusiastic, informed and motivated staff to manage and facilitate the visitor experience. Building on our experience of training in the UK, Syria and Azerbaijan and working with our trusted network of Museum practitioners, we trained a team of young Saudi Arabians to be confident science centre operators and exceptional science communicators.
We handpicked the Mishkat Senior Management, Facilitator and Visitor Services team. Our bespoke recruitment process evaluated personal and professional qualities of candidates, interviewing over 100 candidates.
It was important that all levels of staff – from Finance Managers to on the floor Facilitators – were fully orientated to their new roles, learning from international best practice and being guided on how it can be adapted for their own operations. KCA managed this process.
We facilitated the training of Mishkat’s Senior Management, mentored by their equivalents at Britain’s first purpose built science centre, Techniquest. We also drafted all of the Standard Operating Procedures, and supported Mishkat’s team to take ownership over the contents.
We intensively trained the Mishkat Facilitator and Visitor Services team. As the faces of Mishkat to internal and external visitors, their day to day performance is critical to providing a life enhancing experience to audiences. We delivered training with the Science Museum,London in the UK and in Saudi Arabia. The training contents included shadowing the Museum’s award winning Explainer team, learning theory, disability awareness training, health & safety, facilitating difficult visitors, working with children, presentation skills and science communication.
We have an ongoing mentorship role with the Mishkat Learning & Communications team, supporting and guiding their day to day operations and major projects.
