An initiative from the King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy, Mishkat is an interactive science discovery centre developed to inspire the next generation of Saudi Arabian energy innovators.
The word Mishkat “مشكاة” is an Arabic word that is used metaphorically in Quran to describe the light and guidance of Allah (God). Mishkat is a niche where candle light is protected and given a chance to spread beautifully. Mishkat Interactive Center opts to do to science what Mishkat does to light (spread it beautifully, protect it and enhance it).
Mishkat combines hands-on exhibits, cutting-edge technology and electrifying events to create an enjoyable learning experience for visitors of all ages. Working in partnership with National Talents, we led the design of this exciting new destination, produced the content and advised on all operational provisions.
Results from formal summative evaluation by the Susie Fisher Group in December 2012 strongly indicates that Mishkat is achieving its objective through changing attitudes towards energy, science and innovation. As stated by Susie Fisher,‘Mishkat offers a varied visitor experience, with the Energy Explorers gallery and the Facilitator shows as high points. This is because they offer an entertaining, hands-on experience, which simplifies and makes real, the theoretical science they have learned about in class’. The Susie Fisher Group has credited Mishkat’s early success to the experience being hands on, by showing alternative energy in application, by making the issues surrounding energy accessible and by being leading edge and well designed.
We still work closely with Mishkat, mentoring departments and supporting the delivery of audience focused, inspiring projects.
